Cora Cummins
b.1973, Carlow, Ireland.
Brought up in Carlow , Cora Cummins graduated from the College of Marketing and Design with a B.A in Fine Art in 1994 followed by a MA in Fine Art Painting and Print at NCAD, Dublin
Cora has exhibited widely all over Ireland, including the 2003 Invited Artists Annual Exhibition in the RHA, Kevin Kavanagh Gallery, Dublin, and Black Church Print Studio as well as taking part in shows in the UK and Australia.
Cora’s work is part of many public and private collections including: The OPW, AIB, National Council for Vocational Awards and the DIT Collection.
She works with the medium of etching and carborundum and her recent body of work is based on the landscape. Employing a muted palette of tones and simplified forms, she seeks to evoke ideas of space and transience. The artist remains concerned with the encapsulating the essence of the experience of place through fleeting impressions. Images of wide-open spaces evoke the interior landscapes of memory and the individual’s relationship to place.
