This is a fine exhibit of 15 new works on paper from five of the most important artists working in Ireland today. The show has an impressive range in both the content and form characterising each artist’s approach.

Barrie Cooke’s richly expressionist, semi-abstract works reflect his enduring interest in the timelessness of nature and the elemental, and we also have the opportunity to observe his own singular treatment of the nude, to which the print medium here is so very sympathetic. Felim Egan has made a series of abstract prints using seemingly monochromatic expanses which nevertheless have a restrained, glowing depth, into which he has inserted small blocks of luminous colour, showing a delicacy and grace which is enhanced by the fineness of the print medium.

Recently honoured by UCD for her contribution to art, Dr Anne Madden’s dramatic and visionary pieces show her skill as a colourist, with their fluid images of pure energy and light captured in moments of radiating dissolution. Patrick Scott, using his characteristic gold leaf and abstract geometric images, has made works that are pared down and uncluttered yet rich in their balance and pure harmony, in a perfectly executed juxtaposition of curve and line, soft gold and hard black.

Charles Tyrrell’s large-scale minimalist abstract works are beautifully made explorations of relationships of form, with the plainness and solidity of their architectural shapes and restrained palette mitigated by the inscription of fine surface marks which give textural detail.

The exhibition marks a new departure for both the artists and lemonstreet gallery. It will be the first time these artists have exhibited together at the lemonstreet gallery and such a collection should make for a very interesting show. All of the works were produced in conjunction with Lemonstreet Press, a sister company of lemonstreet gallery which was launched in 2003 and enables the gallery to commission artworks exclusive to the gallery. The Lemonstreet Press comprises of a working studio with fine art printing facilities enabling the gallery to work closely with the artist to produce excellent quality works on paper.

The Exhibition will run from 16th June to 14th July 2005.
