view works
Barrie Cooke has lived for so many years in Ireland that his work has become intimately associated with this country. Born in Cheshire, Cooke spent his childhood in England, the United States, Jamaica and Bermuda. He settled in Ireland in the 1950’s and now lives and works in Sligo.
We have just finished working on 2 carborundum prints with Barrie Cooke, one of the most important artists working in Europe today.
These 2 pieces are typical of Cooke’s work, which offers accounts of aspects of the natural world. He derives inspiration from the quotation from Heraclitus: 'All existence flows in the stream of creation and passing away.' Living on an island swept by rain clouds and traversed by rivers, the artist has focused this philosophical meditation on the Irish landscape.
