Mary A Fitzgerald
a longer walk home
20-09-2007 - 18-10-2007
The lemonstreet gallery is delighted to host a solo show of work by Irish artist Mary A. Fitzgerald
This new body of work comprises of paintings and works on paper.
The work is rooted in the experience of looking, and subjects are drawn from the artist’s response to her immediate environment. These works originated by referencing an eclectic gathering of daily observations and random things seen.
The area between representation and abstraction is the space and context of the work.
“a longer walk home” presents us with a visual narrative poised somewhere between reality and recall.Fitzgerald’s ways of working have recently combined traditional printmaking practices, single sheet drawings and paintings, to rework themes and meaning. Often working on several pieces at one time, the artist continues to explore concerns around composition and colour in these rich new works.
This show presents a series of narratives; however, the subjects are never presented in full, and remain open-ended in interpretation.
The exhibition will be opened by Prof Ciarán Benson on Thursday 20th September 2007
The Exhibition will run until 18th October 2007
